The Palo Alto High School baseball team is forcing a third game in its playoff series versus Wilcox High School after annihilating Wilcox, 10-1, today at Paly.
The Wilcox Chargers struck first in the first inning, loading the bases after starting pitcher Kevin Kannappan allowed a single and two walks. Head coach Eric Raich pulled Kannappan and placed senior relief pitcher Graham Marchant in the game with the bases loaded and no outs. Only allowing a run off a single, charged to Kannappan, Marchant proceeded to pitch a two-hit shutout over seven innings of relief.
The Vikings struck back in the coming innings, with notable hits from junior designated hitter John Dickerson and senior third baseman Drake Sweezy, who both hit their first home runs of the season, a two run home run and a solo home run in the second and sixth inning, respectively.
The Vikings will play Wilcox for the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League title at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Wilcox.
