The Palo Alto Unified School District community will hold an event to remember the life of a recently-deceased fifth grade teacher from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Herbert Hoover Elementary School.
Those who attend will participate in a welcome reunion, view a photo slideshow and talk during “sharing time” to describe their experiences with the departed teacher, George Flath, according to Assistant Superintendent Scott Bowers.
“Sharing time is voluntary and is an opportunity for anyone who would like to share a word or two about one of your special memories about Mr. Flath,” Bowers said.
Instead of flowers, those who attend are encouraged to donate towards organizations Flath supported, including the Companion Animal Rescue Effort, the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or the Humane Society of Silicon Valley.
Flath, who passed away on Sunday at the Kaiser Hospital in San Fransisco at the age of 43, succumbed to a severe infection which health officials suspect to be meningococcal disease that developed after his cold and flu-like symptoms inexplicably intensified, according to an article by the Palo Alto Online.
