Palo Alto High School students and staff are grieving over the loss of a student who died by suicide yesterday afternoon.
The Guidance Office will be open throughout the day to provide students with support and help. Counselors from Adolescent Counseling Services and Kara, a grief support organization, are also available on campus. An increased number of district psychologists are present as well.
At least two additional support staff members were also present in all classes the student was a part of, according to Principal Phil Winston.
“People [staff members] are out walking around a lot more than normal, making sure that if students need a hug, they’re getting a hug,” Winston said. “If they just need some time to themselves, they can get that time too.”
If you or someone you know could benefit from support or someone to talk with, the ACS on-campus staff may be contacted at 650-833-4244. The phone number for the off-campus crisis line is 408-329-3831.
