Palo Alto High School students who have received a President’s Service Award for the 2010 fall semester are invited to a lunch celebration on Friday at the Haymarket Theater, according to Career Adviser Christina Owen.
Owen has invited City Council Member Yiaway Yeh to congratulate and inspire students at the event. In addition to discussing the value of community service, he will share specific volunteer experiences in his life and how they have impacted him, according to volunteer Jamie Vi.
Principal Phil Winston, District Secretary of Education Debbra Lindo, Owen and parent volunteers will present the awards, Vi said. She added that a total of 129 students will be congratulated tomorrow for completing at least 100 hours of community service in 12 months. This represents a larger number compared to the recent past, but is less than half of Paly’s record of 355 recipients in one semester.
A complimentary lunch will be provided, consisting of pizza, Caesar salad, cupcakes and fruits, Vi added.
