The sixth annual Palo Alto High School Turkey Trot will be held during lunch on Friday on the quad.
According to Parent Coordinator Anne Stewart, the Turkey Trot is hosted every year to bring the Paly community together for its own Thanksgiving celebration while also donating to families in need.
“It is a holiday that everyone can celebrate,” Stewart said.
Students can participate by bringing either $5 or a combination of $2 and three canned or nonperishable items to the quad in exchange for a Thanksgiving lunch. The meal features freshly roasted turkey, pies and fixings. Donations will benefit the Ecumenical Hunger Program in East Palo Alto to help needy families prepare for the holidays, according to Stewart.
“Items EHP would love to receive are spices, chicken broth, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce and anything that will help make a Thanksgiving dinner special,” Stewart said
Lunch will be extended to an hour and 10 minutes to accommodate this special event, and the Paly Jazz Band will also be playing several pieces during lunch, according to junior Mark Nishimura, who is a member of the band.
According to Stewart, what makes the Turkey Trot such a success is the work of community volunteers and helpers as a whole.
“We love the community effort that so many people put forth to make this event happen,” Stewart said. “We hope everyone involved enjoys good food and the company of each other in a relaxed setting.”
