There will be a dialect workshop in the Palo Alto High School’s Haymarket Theater during Tutorial tomorrow, according to Kathleen Woods, director of Paly’s theater arts program.
Due to the British setting of this year’s spring musical, My Fair Lady, Woods arranged this workshop to help students who wish to audition. The workshop will be covering both the British dialect and the Cockney accent.
All students are invited to the workshop, but potential cast members of the musical are advised to attend, Woods said.
“They’ll [students] be introduced to some of the basics of the British dialect, get comfortable with it and then be able to incorporate that into whatever they’ll be preparing for their audition,” Woods said.
There will also be basic preparation materials for the audition at the workshop, according to Woods.
The workshop will be led by Kristen Lo, a former theater teacher at Paly and current technical theatre teacher at Henry M. Gunn High School.
