Professional actors will perform short plays written by members of Paly’s theater program at Theatreworks tonight.
After the first meeting with professional playwright Dan Moyer, eight sophomores, juniors and seniors wrote short one-act plays as part of Theatreworks’s Young Playwright’s Initiative. They will spend the day working with professional actors and directors to bring their scripts to life, according to Theaterworks’ website.
Junior Sam Bellows is one of the playwrights whose play was selected for the Wednesday event.
“I’m really excited,” Bellows said. “[At first] we did various writing exercises and character developments until after the first month we all had created the rough draft of a one act.
“Dan [Moyer] and our teacher [Kathleen] Woods read through all the one-acts and picked seven which would be further edited and then produced at Theatreworks,” Bellows continued.
Performances are open to the public. They begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts on 500 Castro Street.
