Paly’s Bhangra club is set to perform tomorrow at lunch on the quad, unless rain causes the performance to be moved to the big gym.
The performance is part of the first day of Not In Our School Week, and will follow the opening flag ceremony.
According to co-captain senior Naazneen Essabhoy, the club fits in with NIOS week because it represents the diversity at Paly.
“It’s a really great way to enter NIOS week because it shows a burst of culture and excitement that everyone can relate to and demonstrates an aspect of Indian culture that everyone can enjoy,” Essabhoy said.
The performance is going to be a little different from the club’s first performance earlier this year, according to Essabhoy. The outfits are will be more traditional to reflect the cultural aspect of the performance for NIOS week. In addition, the club has learned four new dances that will be part of its routine.
This will be the last routine created by the Bhangra club this school year.
“This is one of our last performances for the year, so we really want to show the school how much we’ve grown since September,” senior dancer Patrick Liu said. “Most importantly, because this is Not in Our School Week, we want to show the school that we should always be open to new cultures and ideas.”
