The Environmental Initiative Club will host Palo Alto High School’s first Day of Darkness on Thursday, Jan. 28, to continue its Earth Week festivities.
Day of Darkness is meant to be a school-wide activity for students to learn about energy conservation and natural sources of light, according to club co-president sophomore Michael Abrams.
To participate, club members will encourage students and teachers to turn off as many lights in classrooms as possible. Judges will visit during fourth period to determine the classes with the most lights turned off. According to Abrams, the class with the most lights turned off will receive a special prize.
Abrams suggested tips for students and teachers to light up classrooms without using electricity. Some methods include opening windows and doors or using rechargeable battery-powered lighting.
