To defray the cost of competitions, supplies, and textbooks for the year, Paly’s Science Olympiad Club will hold a Chevy’s fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, according to senior Erika Ji, co-president of the club.
Everyone is encouraged to dine in the Mountain View branch, located at 2116 West El Camino Real, with a flier (PNG, DOC) in hand to ensure that 25 percent of the meal’s cost will be donated to the club. Students can bring anyone with them, including friends and family members.
The club is also sponsoring a group dinner at 6:30 p.m. for anyone to join. Ji has offered to coordinate carpools for those who need rides and contact her directly.
As classes will not be held on Monday, the club anticipates that the convenience of the date will encourage more people to attend, Ji said.
Club officers hope to raise at least $100 or $200 from the event primarily for the Science Olympiad competition, according to Ji. She added that the regional contest will be held on Saturday, March 6, and the state tournament will be held on Saturday, April 17.
In addition to transportation costs and registration fees, the club also requires money for equipment and books.
“We also use club funds to help purchase tools and building materials for engineering projects, as well as textbooks and other materials for students to study,” Ji said.
The club’s next competition is the Science Bowl Regional held on Saturday, Feb. 27, according to Ji.
