Paly’s first Mix It Up Day will be at lunch this Tuesday, Nov. 10, on the quad.
The goal of the event is to create new friendships among students while having an enjoyable time, according to ASB [Associated Student Body] president Osceola Ward.
“The event was actually an ASB collaboration with Paly’s club Unity,” said Ward.
Ward, Tremaine Kirkman, the club’s multicultural representative, and Unity members Armani Johnson and Julisa Russell spearheaded the implementation of Mix It Up Day at Paly.
This is the first time Paly will take part in this national event.
Students should be aware of the variety of opportunities such as a poetry slam circle where people can share slam poetry or impromptu freestyles, according to Ward.
“This will allow them [students] to embrace their artistic abilities and appreciate others’ talents and abilities,” Ward said.
In addition to these activities, the planners for this event have included a game of sharks and minnows and a three-legged race. In this race, students will be paired randomly with other students. Winners will receive a Cheese House gift card.
“We will encourage people to get to know others throughout the day and will be handing out candy to anyone that can tell us about something new they learned about a person they just met,” Ward said.
