To Senators John McCain and Barack Obama:
Today marks a momentous day in American history. Americans of all ages, races and backgrounds will vote in an effort to heal this nation. We may clash in many ways, but there exists a universal agreement between us; now is the time for change.
McCain, you seem absolutely no different than our last president. There are a few differences. You were tortured. You are very old. You have problems with anger. Tell me, what makes you think you can lead our great nation when you can barely manage your own temper? Why should we trust you with the “nuclear football” and the power to wage war?
Obama, are you really the change America needs? Many admire your calm and cool attitude. But what is it you really stand for? We don’t want to be lied to, not in this time of desperation with economic crisis and war that frighten us so deeply. You said in your autobiography that many project their hopes to you. The question remains: who are you Obama?
I remember the first time I heard you speak. Everyone around me chanted and glorified your name like some sort of god. As you delivered your speech about race, life and your friendship with your pastor, I couldn’t help but notice the one thing you forgot to mention; your opinion. Rather than taking a stand, you excused your friendship with Reverent Wright. Then, a few weeks later, you discarded your reverend when he began preaching against you. Yet your supporters support anything you do.
Our forefathers might be ashamed to see such corruption and lack of individuality and freedom in our leadership. America used to be about breaking the mold and was an unbiased place to be free to express one’s thoughts. Today, our presidential process is as rigid and trivial as American Idol. Where is the truth? Senators, America desperately needs a leader, but both of you have failed to convince me. I see your many strengths, but also your glaring flaws. For the sake of this country, prove my distrust wrong. I’m convinced we’re in just as much trouble as before. I don’t see much change; only politicians. Give me real reasons to believe you.
