A Palo Alto High School junior who qualified on April 29 to the United States Physics Team has a chance to compete in the International Physics Olympiad.
The junior, Grace Lin, will join the team for her first time after earning one of the top scores in the qualifying exam.
“Out of 400 semifinalists, the scores on the semifinal determine the final 20 team members,” Lin said.
Her next step will be trying to make it into the top five in the United States to compete against other nations.
“The 20 members of the US team attend a week of training camp at the end of May, and then five are selected to represent the US at the International Physics Olympiad in July,” Lin said.
Lin is also one of the three presidents of Palo Alto High School’s Science Olympiad squad and one of the five Paly students on the Science Bowl team. Both teams this year qualified to their respective national championships.
