Seniors snapped up first place in the three-point shooting contest during the advisory rally, earning them 50 points. Freshmen placed second with 37 points. Contestants had 30 seconds to make as many baskets as possible from the three-point line.

“It was fun to participate,” senior Christoph Bono said. “I haven’t shot a basketball in a while, but I guess we won, so it was cool.”

Freshmen Tully McCalister and Nick Sullivan placed first in the dunk contest, earning 50 points. Sophomores landed in second, earning 37 points.

Sophomore Aldis Petriceks, who participated in the dunk contest with E.J. Floreal, felt that he could have performed better.

“I feel that if my second pass had been a lot better, we could have won,” Petriceks said. “Coming in, I thought we would win.”

Juniors managed to win the cheering category during the advisory rally, cashing in 40 points. Sophomores, seniors and freshmen earned 30, 20 and 10 points, respectively.

Freshman president Alex Hammer noticed an increase in underclassmen turnout to Tuesday’s morning activities.

“Turnout was great,” Hammer noted after the advisory rally. “We were very enthusiastic, and it was way better than Monday. Because we’re freshmen, I don’t think we’ll win, but we’ll keep it up the whole week.”

The lunchtime rally featured sumo wrestling and “best dressed” contests. Freshman Charlotte Alipate managed an unexpected victory over senior Trina Ohms in a seven-round sumo wrestling contest, scoring 100 points for the freshman class. Seniors, juniors and sophomores earned 75, 50 and 25 points respectively.

Despite a loss in the sumo contest, seniors Noah Berman and Stephanie Spector took first place for “best dressed”, earning 20 points for the senior class. Sophomores came in second with 15 points.

The lunchtime activities elicited positive reactions from students.

“The lunch rally was great,” junior Brian Gill said. “It was funny, and I think it really brought the classes together–the juniors cheering for the freshmen, and the sophomores cheering for the seniors.”

Spirit Commissioner George Brown was also satisfied with turnout and Tuesday’s activities.

“The gym was packed for Advisory and [during lunch] all the bleachers were filled up,” Brown said. “This is the first year we tried out sumo wrestling, and that worked pretty well. I think people liked that.”

In Jar Wars, freshmen have taken the lead with 523 points. Juniors came in second with 150 points, sophomores in third with 150 points and seniors last with -198 points. The grade with the most Jar Wars points by Friday will be awarded an additional 150 points to Spirit Week point totals. Donation jars are in the library.

The final point tallies for day two of Spirit Week are as follows: seniors in first place with 353 points, sophomores in second with 282, freshmen in third with 269 and juniors placing last with 251 points. Click here to see a graph of the results.
