Paly suffered its second false fire alarm in a little over two months when construction crews accidentally set off the fire alarm roughly ten minutes after seventh period began. According to principal Scott Laurence, construction crews were removing wires in preparation to move the portables for pool construction today.
"They made a mistake, pure and simple," Laurence said. "I’m pretty angry right now. I’m responsible for your safety, and false alarms diminish people’s trust in fire alarms. If we have a series of false alarms, people might respond more slowly in the event of a real one and people could get hurt. But the construction crews were very apologetic, and I appreciate that."
As in the previous false alarm, students were unsure how to respond, as many did not immediately realize they were supposed to go to their fourth period teacher when evacuating.
Despite such confusion, Scott Reese said, "This is how we’ll always respond."
