Juniors won the ‘best-dressed’ competition during brunch on the Quad for the third day of Spirit Week, with sophomores in second place, seniors in third place and freshmen in last.
Nava Schwarzbach was one of the juniors who won the best-dressed competition. Schwarzbach said she embraced the green goddess theme and used past experiences to create a winning outfit.
“I went backpacking for a month in Alaska,” Schwarzbach said. “You can’t just create granola: You are granola or you aren’t and most people just aren’t.”
Junior class president Kai Bunger-Tang is hopeful that the junior class will win this year.
“I know junior year is very crazy for many people academically and I’m really happy about the rally turnout,” Bunger-Tang said. “Yesterday, we had a bunch of people at the rally and I’m happy about that. In general, our spirits are really high. We definitely have a chance of beating the seniors this year.”
Menlo-Atherton High School juniors Alisha Parikh-Briggs and Anna Dearing were reporting on today’s rally events to compare them with how Spirit Week happens at their school.
“There was a lot more energy and more people dressed up [at Paly] because nobody dresses up at M-A,” Dearing said. “If you walked on campus, you would have no idea it was Spirit Week.”
Parikh-Briggs and Dearing said they want to adapt some of Paly’s events to bring to M-A.
“We tried to do a class clash thing and it worked a little, but wasn’t the size of this,” Parikh-Briggs said. “The costume contest is really good and we’re gonna try to have somebody come to the night rally.”
Kensie Pao, senior and spirit commissioner, said she wants to see if any other classes will break the senior class’s win streak.
“Best dress this year is going amazing,” Pao said. “People are showing up and so far, we’ve had some really good costumes. … I’m waiting for maybe a tie to happen, or maybe someone beats the seniors for a little bit to see what happens.”
