Seniors claimed victory over staff, 25-20, in Palo Alto High School’s annual student seniors-versus-staff basketball game at the Winter Rally during lunch on Wednesday in the Peery Center.
Despite the staff’s efforts to close the score gap with a strong fourth-quarter push, the seniors maintained their lead from start to finish, securing their victory.
According to participant and senior Alec Bonnard, the seniors played well and worked collaboratively for the win.
“It was a great team performance,” Bonnard said. “We worked on the plays that we practiced beforehand and everyone was getting their fair share, so I was proud of how we played together.”
Kathryn Widen, engineering and AP Computer Science Principles teacher who participated in the basketball game, said the match was a fun experience and that the seniors played very well.
“It [seniors-versus-staff basketball game] is really fun, but I’m going to say that last year, the game was a lot closer,” Widen said. “I’m really impressed by the teamwork the seniors are showing, with a lot of passing and planning out. The teachers could maybe learn a little bit from them.”
In addition to the basketball game, members of the Associated Student Body revealed this year’s Prom location to be the Exploratorium, in San Francisco.
According to freshman Lucy Bothe, it was entertaining to attend the Winter Rally with friends and see the students and teachers play against each other.
“It’s really fun and funny to see the students play with the teachers,” Bothe said. “It’s really cool not only to be with your whole grade, but also seniors, my brother especially since he’s leaving soon.”
