Who’s stronger, a bunch of Vikings or a pack of bears? This question will be answered tonight, as the Palo Alto High School Football team (5-2) heads just 10 minutes north to take on the Menlo Atherton Bears (5-2) at 7 p.m. at Coach Parks Field.
According to senior receiver Jeremiah Fung, both the close proximity of MA, and the current league rankings being tied, Friday’s game carries extra weight in his mind.
“This game means a lot,” Fung said. “Not only cause it’s for league standings and playoffs but also because it’s a cross-town rivalry.
Additionally, he said that losing to the Bears last year showed him how serious of a team the Bears are, and that he and the rest of the Vikings are going to have to come in ready to battle.
“It’s going to be a competition,” Fung said. “And we are going to have to come out firing.”
After dropping last-week’s game against Wilcox (13-42), the Vikings’ room for losses has gotten much smaller en route to their league title goals.
According to sophomore quarterback Justin Fung, getting a win tonight would get that momentum right back for the Vikings.
“There’s always going to be bumps in the road,” Fung said. “But what we gotta do is work together and get through it. Whatever happened last week happened. Now we’ve been focusing on our gameplan and have had a couple of great practices giving me confidence that we can execute come game day.”
