Green paint, neon glitter, and fluffy tutus abounded across Palo Alto High School today for the first day of Spirit Week. The annual school tradition has officially kicked off, following the first “best-dressed” competition during brunch today on the Quad.
The judges — which included teachers Kenna Gallagher, Doyle Knight, and Erin Angell — gave first place to the seniors, second place to the juniors, and third and last place to the sophomores and freshmen respectively.
Senior Giacomo Resmini, the class winner of the “best-dressed” competition, is determined for the seniors to pull through.
“The seniors are doing super well so far,” Resmini said. “I’m glad that people are finally realizing that it’s our turn to go all out in Spirit Week.”
According to senior Heiren Noone, who wore a creeper hat, she also has full faith in her class winning Spirit Week.
“[The] Class of 2025 really pulled up, but the other grades need to step up their game if they’re going to even get in the running,” Noone said.
Sophomore president Katie Kim said she believes her class will come out victorious.
“Students were very hyped for the first day,” Kim said. “I’m proud of my sophomores and I feel like we can really bring it for the week.”
Sophomore Leilani Chen is looking forward to the festivities continuing next week.
“I’m excited to see how people dress up and help with float building, [the] class dance, and cheers,” Chen said. “It’s everyone’s favorite time of year.”
Spirit Week will continue next Tuesday with class themes (seniors: Y2K, juniors: Wizard of Oz, sophomores: firefighters, freshman: Finding Nemo), and a rally during lunch.
