The Chanticleer men’s chorus will perform Christmas carols on December 12 and 13 at the Stanford Memorial Church.
The Chanticleers, who take their name from the "clear singing" rooster from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, consists of 12 male singers.
The chorus will perform a cappella versions of many different Christmas songs, including Gregorian chant, a traditional form of Christian chanting, carols from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, traditional carols, and contemporary carols.
The group, based out of San Francisco, performs in concert halls and churches across the United States and Europe each year, including several Bay Area appearances, in December, March, May and June of 2006 and 2007.
The Chanticleers have won several Grammys for their recordings. The Los Angeles Times calls their Christmas performance "A refreshing deviation from the yuletide norm, sung with convincing soulfulness."
The performances are December 12 and 13, beginning at 8 pm, at the Memorial Church. Tickets are $22 for students under 15 and $41 for all other non-Stanford students. Ticket information can found online at http://livelyarts.stanford.edu/tickets/
