The Kronos Quartet will be performing at Dinkelspiel Auditorium at Stanford University Friday night at 8 pm.
The group performs both modern and classic quartets and will be performing Sofia Gubaidulina’s Quartet No. 4, Peteris Vasks’s Quartet No. 5, and Michael Gordo’s The Sad Park. The performance also includes a pre-concert lecture from Jenny Bilfield about commissioning new music, fitting for the Kronos Quartet since the group runs a non-profit organization dedicated to commissioning new pieces for the string quartet.
The quartet has been nominated for seven Grammys, and won a Grammy in 2003 for Best Chamber Music Performance. They also recorded music for the upcoming movie The Fountain.
Tickets cost $20-22 for youth under 15 and $37-41 for all other students. Visit http://livelyarts.stanford.edu/cart/home.php?groupBlock=KRON to purchase tickets online.
