This year’s homecoming dance will be special for a variety of reasons including having a radio DJ from Wild 94.9 and an innovative "Blackout" theme.
Spirit Week brings out the class rivalries and excitement in Paly students rarely seen any other time of the year. This five day fun spree concludes with a Friday night homecoming football game and a Saturday evening dance. This year’s dance promises to be significantly different then those in the past.
"Having a new activities director will put a different flavor on things [the dance]," Principal Scott Laurence said. Although the school’s new Student Activities Director Allison Davies is not familiar with Paly’s past dances, according to Davies, she will do her best to make this one to remember.
According to Davies, the radio station Wild 94.9 will be providing the DJ for the dance.
"People will be able to do shout-outs over the radio," Davies said. News about this special DJ has sparked further interest in this years dance. Additionally, Davies has made the innovative theme of "Blackout" a selling point.
"The theme is ‘Blackout’ which pretty much means all the lights are off and [attendees should wear] dark clothing," Davies said.
She also hinted at a surprise gift being given to those attending the dance.
Still, some will not attend Homecoming for various reasons.
"I didn’t go last year and I only heard bad things about it [the dance]," sophomore Ryan Coe said.
Others simply will choose not to attend because they don’t know enough about the dance.
"I haven’t heard anything [about the dance]," junior Amanda Ellis said. "My friends are telling me to go, but I don’t know [if I should go]."
Still others are optimistic about going and don’t give a second thought to it.
"Do you need a reason [to go]?" junior Michael Fortune said. "I get to see all my friends."
Some see it as their last chance to go to homecoming.
"Of course I’ll go because I’m a senior and its my last year," senior Alisa Suen said.
The Homecoming dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and conclude at 10:30 p.m. Davies urges everyone attending to wear black this Saturday and buy a ticket for $5 with an ASB card and for $10 without one at the auditor.
