The Paly Key Club posted advertisements around campus this last week telling students to "Spring into Action," for their annual blood drive sponsored by the Stanford Blood Center The drive took place on Monday, June 5, 2006, in the girl’s gym, from approximately 9a.m. until 7th 3p.m.
"We had our first donors come at 8:45a.m. the start of second period," Key Club president Alex Ji said.
Standard rule requirements were enfroced ensuring that participants were above the age of 17, weigh at least 110 lbs, and were free of cold and flu symptoms.
"We shoot to do the best we can. We advertise and hope that students respond," sophomore Vika Kreitz said.
At this year’s drive, the Key Club’s hoped to attract 80 participants. By about two in the afternoon they had about 60 donors.
"Next year we hope to do the drive twice." Ji said, "It’s a great cause and Stanford Blood Center provides us with everything, they are easy to work with."
Just the week prior, the Key Club had orchestrated a sock and shoe drive in partnership with the My New Red Shoes organization.
"It’s fun to be in Key club," Kreitz said. "We are the volunteers at the events."
