The Advanced Authentic Research program will hold its celebratory showcase of final projects in the Media Arts Center on Friday, May 18. This showcase represents the culmination of a whole year of original student research.

The AAR program gives students an opportunity to conduct research in a field of their choosing. Each student is paired with an expert mentor in the field and can collaborate with others on a project, which is then presented at the end of the year.

“Both Gunn and Paly students will present posters explaining their projects at the showcase,” said Hilary McDaniel, the Paly AAR liaison. “Students from some of Paly’s career technical education classes will also come to show their own projects at the showcase.”

The showcase will feature projects that students have been working on since the beginning of the school year.  

“Some of the coolest projects are a self-built electric bike, which will actually be brought to the showcase, and art for children with spectrum disorders,” McDaniel said. “There are only a couple that I can think of off of the top of my head, it’s just such a wide range of topics.”

Sophomore Aidan Hsu researched the potential correlation between cryptocurrencies and the prices of graphical processing units.

“I worked hard all year on this project and I’m excited to be able to show it off and tell people about it at the showcase,” said Hsu. “AAR allowed me to act on my interests and do interesting research in a field of my choice.”

According to the AAR website, this year’s showcase is the third ever showcase of student projects. Snacks and refreshments will be provided free of charge to attendees.
