After a week of home games, the Palo Alto High School girls’ lacrosse team (6-2, 6-2) will travel on the road to face league opponent Willow Glen High School (6-3, 4-3) on Wednesday and Leland High School (1-6, 0-6) on Friday.

Paly started the season strong, with three straight league victories over Wilcox High School, Friday’s opponent Leland and crosstown rival Gunn High School, before tough losses to Los Gatos and Mountain View.

Last week, the Vikings bounced back, dominating Los Altos and Saratoga, 12-4 and 13-3, respectively.

According to senior attacker Ellen Goncher, the girls’ goal is to continue to stay motivated every day.

“For the past few weeks we have had a heavy emphasis on conditioning and playing at game speed in practice, and that remains our focus as we prepare for our two games this week,” Goncher said.

Despite their smothering performances, Goncher said their current energy levels need to be sustained, as to prevent lapses like the girls’ games against Los Gatos and Mountain View.

“The biggest difference in our game against Saratoga was the energy and the passion we brought to the game, and we plan using that momentum in our games this week,” Goncher said. “In addition, we have worked on our transition a lot in practice and it really showed in the last game.”

In their games this week, the Vikings will look to continue their winning ways and push towards the top of the De Anza League standings.

“Hopefully, that work will continue to pay off this week and throughout the rest of this season,” Goncher. “Obviously, the draw is incredibly important, and so it is vital that our midfielders continue to play with high energy and fight for the ball in the midfield.”

The girls play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Glen High School and 7 p.m. Friday at Leland High School.
