Palo Alto High School is hosting a 5-kilometer Fun Run on March 25 at Viking Stadium to benefit sports teams.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. and will loop around Paly and Castilleja School before returning to Paly for the finish.
According to event co-organizer and Paly parent Gordon Craig, the race aims to fulfill two purposes.
“One is to give Paly another way to build community and have fun at the same time, and the other is to raise money for Paly sports boosters and cross country and track and field,” Craig said.
Craig says the proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the sports boosters, the cross country team and the track and field team.
The run was inspired by a similar run that Menlo-Atherton High School hosts, according to Craig.
“[Athletic Director] Kathi Bowers and Coach Michael Davidson were enthused about it, as were a number of parents from the track and field team who are now helping to organize it,” Craig said.
The run is sponsored by the Wellness Center, Fleet Feet Sports, the Jewish Community Center and the YMCA.
According to Craig, as the run is sanctioned by USA Track and Field, the race will be timed.
Participants may either sign up online for $25 until March 15, when the price will increase to $35, or at 8 a.m. on the day of the event.
“Sign up and come out for the run,” Craig said. “The more people we have, the more fun it will be.”
