The Palo Alto High School baseball team (8-3, 4-0) continued its seven-game winning streak this week, sweeping the Milpitas High School Trojans (4-6, 0-4) in a two game series.
The Vikings started well in both games, as they beat the Trojans 3-2 Wednesday night and 5-2 last night, With the sweep, Paly remains the only undefeated team in the De Anza League.
Junior catcher Nathan Willis led the Vikings offense with a .667 batting average and one RBI off a double. His hot streak also leads the Vikings and the De Anza league on the season with a .520 batting percentage.
“We have been riding a wave of momentum over the past eight games and this win just added to it,” Willis said. “If we continue to play our game we should do great things the rest of the season.”
Senior Aron Ecoff pitched four innings and junior Niko Lillios closed out for the Vikings, striking out a batter.
“We are doing the right things at practice and we are on the right track,” Lillios said. “We need to keep doing what we are doing, and keep getting wins, we are going to keep working hard in practice, which will translate into the game.”
The team has its eye on a Central Coast Section Open Division championship this season.
“Our goals are to win league and win CCS,” Willis said. “We are a special team and I think we have a great shot to win CCS if we stay healthy and continue to play solid ball.”
According to junior shortstop Max Jung-Goldberg, this game set the pace for the rest of the season, as everyone is stepping into their roles.
“We want to sweep every series and play good baseball on both sides of the ball, and continue to win,” Jung-Goldberg said. “Whatever it takes to get into the CCS Open Division.”
The Vikings are still waiting on the return of key players second baseman Ethan Stern and pitcher Spencer Rojahn who are finishing up their impressive seasons on the boys basketball team.
The Vikings will face the Saratoga Falcons (3-5-1, 2-2) in another two game series this week.
