This is the first installment of the series “Paly Voices,” which showcases art by Palo Alto High School students. Sophomore Marie Davis shares her voice by singing “More Than Words” by Extreme.

Davis grew up surrounded by family members with a passion for music.

“I started singing when I was young because my whole family played music,” Davis said. “I’ve always liked how it makes me feel happy and hopefully it makes others feel happy too,” Davis said.

In addition to open mics hosted by the Teen Arts Council and Red Rock Cafe in Mountain View, Davis has performed at a variety of venues.

“When I was younger I lived in France where there were street music festivals once a year and me and my friend would play some songs downtown every year.”

In the upcoming years, Davis looks to expand her music career.

“I’ve always wanted to start a band, so hopefully I can do that,” Davis said. “I’d also like to write more original [songs] if I have enough time.”
