The “Historians in Action Club” will be hosting a free History Bowl Tournament for all Bay Area high school students from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 6 at the Mitchell Park Community Center.
Gunn High School junior and President of the Historians in Action Club, Kevin Ji hopes to use the tournament as a way to spread his passion for history.
“I think that teenagers are naturally competitive and love fun,” Ji said. “The goal of the tournament is to promote history in a community that is increasingly focused on the future and forgetting our past. You don’t have to be good at history to attend. We believe that history is for everyone. You don’t have to have a certain skill level.”
The event will be structured in brackets, with four rounds, a semi-final and a final, according to the event itinerary.
The size of each team can range from one participant to four participants and the winning teams will receive prizes, Ji said. Additionally, students should register with their own team.
“There are trophy prizes as well as a $100 Visa gift card for the winning team,” Ji said.
The event is being funded by the City of Palo Alto’s Bryant Street Garage Fund which provides “mini grants” to student-run programs, according to Teen Program Specialist Jose Perez-Sanchez.
If you want to participate in the event, the deadline to register is tomorrow. Additionally, if you wish to volunteer at the event, you may sign up here.
