Administrators are conducting an investigation regarding a streaking incident at the first-ever Palo Alto High School Night Rally during Spirit Week on Wednesday, when a male student ran nude across the football field before the final round of the hamster ball races. 

This event was preceded by a streaker at the end of the rally on Monday, “Theme Day.”

According to Principal Kim Diorio, the administration is conducting an investigation to find out the identify of the streaker, but the events will not have an effect on the rest of Paly students. Associated Student Body will not be taking any actions and will proceed as usual, according to junior ASB Vice President Anmol Nagar.

“Spirit Week continues, and we are going to have a great week,” Diorio said. “We need to focus our time, energy and attention on fun and all the unity that Spirit Week brings to this campus and not let one or two or a small handful of students’ behavior bring the rest of us down.”

According to Assistant Principal Jerry Berkson, the administration is going to do its best to stop streaking, but it will not be an easy task.

Police officers will be around campus to ensure the safety of students and make sure streaking does not continue throughout the week, according to police officer DuJuan Green.

According to Green, students even under the age of 18 can be convicted as sex offenders as well as punished by the school, as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Choir teacher Michael Najar says that these incidents are different from the culture of streaking that was present years ago.

“This is different,” Najar said. “Students now understand the issues, so this makes it a different set of circumstances.”
