After an impressive opening to their seasons, the Palo Alto High School boys’ (4-0) and girls’ (2-2) track and field teams look to maintain their strong performances as they prepare for their next meet at 3:15 p.m. tomorrow at home, against the Los Gatos High School Wildcats (4-0).
The Wildcats are currently ranked first for both boys and girls in the De Anza League.
The Paly boys’ team is currently still undefeated and will advance to first place if they beat Los Gatos. According to junior sprinter Dami Bolarinwa, the team has been occupied preparing for this momentous face-off.
“The team is working hard,” Bolarinwa said. “We are getting the handoffs down and doing the workouts [to make] sure we are ready for Thursday.”
According to junior middle distance runner Portia Barrientos, the girls’ team is also training hard thanks to strong leadership from veteran runners.
“I think we have some great leaders in Julia [Asin], Anna [Dukovic] and Katie [Foug],” Barrientos said. “We should continue to improve as we approach the league meet.”
Barrientos also emphasized that there is still room for development as the team prepares for the second half of the season.
“We have a lot of talent,” Barrientos said. “But so many people have been away college touring or otherwise busy that we haven’t actually had everyone compete at once. Going into the second half of the season, we have a lot of potential.”
