A mathematical sciences professor speaks to students about his vision for future math education Thursday at Palo Alto High School. According to Po-Shen Loh, he is exercising experiments with actors to find a solution for more emotive interactions on online Zoom calls, Its not just about students hearing the information, but their eyes and their energy level are all things that they [actors] look for in Zoom meetings, Loh said.

Palo Alto High School sophomore Connor Lee speaks on the districts new AI policy during the board meeting on Tuesday. According to Dr. Jeong Choe, AI/Tech ad hoc committee lead, it is important to address how technology should be used, as it holds large implications for the future of students’ learning experiences. “The integration of new educational tools, such as Generative AI and other AI tools, has the potential to significantly level the playing field in education, offering diverse learners more opportunities for personalized and inclusive learning experiences,” Choe said. “The development of more sophisticated algorithms, coupled with the exponential growth of computational power, has really surprised everyone, even experts in the field. The world is changing fast and education needs to change with it.”

Senior Ellie Roth prepares to receive the ball during the staff-versus-student volleyball game. The staff defeated the students, 31-23, in Palo Alto High School’s annual students-versus-staff volleyball game on Tuesday in the Peery Center. According to junior William Yao, the volleyball match added to a growing sense of Paly spirit and is a way of community bonding. Eagle senior outside hitter Aidan Cuppett hits a deadly serve in the first set between the Vikings and the Los Altos High School Eagles. The Vikings were unable to defend against the Eagles outside hitters leading to a 3-0 defeat. According to Cuppett, his offense as well as the communication between the Eagles helped them pull off this victory. I think my attacking was pretty good, but also just like communicating with some of the teammates on like, what they need to do is pretty good, Cuppett said.
