The new snack shack brought in record sales during Palo Alto High School’s football game against Archbishop Mitty on Sept. 14, but was overwhelmed by the large crowd, according to volunteer Tina Bono.
Bono said that with the big turnout, the new snack shack was unable to efficiently handle the large numbers of hungry fans coming to eat the new menu items.
According to Bono, the situation became “a little chaotic.” She added that the volunteers are adjusting to the new environment and expect it to be more efficient in the future.
One challenge the new snack shack faces is the small serving windows. Health codes require that the window openings for food be a certain regulated size to avoid contamination.
A solution suggested at a facilities steering committee meeting this Thursday was to install a new microphone system in the window to make communication clearer.
As volunteers are still getting used to the new shack, Bono said a change to the number of volunteers is being considered.
“Things should get better once we find out how many to staff,” said Bono.
Bono added that even though the new shack has its difficulties, it is a “huge improvement” compared to the older one.
