A reading therapy dog will come to Palo Alto High School’s library Thursday to provide stress relief for students, according to librarian Rachel Kellerman.“Trooper [the dog] passed his Canine Good Citizenship with flying colors and he was recommended to be a therapy dog by his trainer a couple years ago,” Kellerman said. Trooper, a golden retriever, has already participated in the Paws to Read program at the Palo Alto Children’s Library. In the program, children have had the chance to read to dogs.“What’s nice about it [the program] is that there is no threat to the children in terms of anybody judging how they read,” Kellerman said. “All kinds of kids come, some learning disabled.”Students may read with the dog in Kellerman’s office or in the library seating area. Kellerman plans to bring Trooper to Paly every Thursday afternoon.“I’ll have him on a leash,” Kellerman said. “I’m going to give him a bath so he smells good.”
