After defeating Los Gatos on Tuesday by a score of 5-1, the Palo Alto High School boys’ tennis team blew out Leigh High School, 6-1, in a scrimmage on Wednesday. The game had initially been an official match but was changed to a scrimmage in order to avoid problems in the Central Coast Central seeding.
The team’s double play was flawless with sophomore Mason Haverstock and senior Andy Hammer winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 at No. 1, juniors Justin Wang and Will Lichtenger winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and seniors Chirag Krishna and Lucas Fodor winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.
The Vikings only loss came when freshman Austin Leung fell, 2-6, 7-5, 7-10 at No. 1 singles. However, the rest of the single players posted convincing victories. Junior Dar Shavit won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, sophomore Blake Smith won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and senior Scott Monismith won 6-2 and 6-2 at No. 4.Palo Alto will play Gunn High School on Thursday at Palo Alto at 3:30 pm.
