The NIOS festivities continued today with a T-shirt decorating activity and a live performance by the Palo Alto High School Jazz Band.
The purpose of the activity, which is an NIOS tradition, was to help build a stronger community and encourage students to be respectful of the diversity on campus, according to sophomore Rachelle Marcum, the co-leader of the Student Diversity Coalition.
“We [the Student Diversity Coalition] want people to write positive messages having to do with NIOS,” Marcum said.
According to junior co-leader Meira Heckman, the T-shirt activity allows students to express their own messages and create positive memories of this week.
“They [students] can wear the shirts tomorrow, and everyone can show how they interpret NIOS,” Heckman said.
Students can make friendship bracelets and watch a performance by a visiting dance group from San Jose State University on the quad tomorrow, according to Heckman.
