Stanford Women in Business will host a conference catered to high school girls interested in business on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Stanford University. Registration for the event can be completed online here and closes on Wednesday, Jan. 19, according to Stanford freshman Patricia Ho, who is coordinating the event.
“Be Business Savvy: Roadtrip to Success” will allow participants to explore the field of business through hands-on activities and workshops, in addition to a presentation on what the business world looks like and what opportunities it offers. The main event will be a competition in which the participants will work with one another to develop, design and market a product.
The conference will feature speakers specializing in different areas of business, including Carly Geehr, Co-Founder and Director of UX at Yummrs, LLC and Tom Kosnik, a consulting professor who teaches the Global Entrepreneurial Marketing and Entrepreneurial Through Leaders Seminar at Stanford University.
A former participant from last year’s conference, junior Zara Sheikh from Saratoga High School, highly encourages others to attend the event.
“I thought it was a great experience and I learned a lot about the business world,” Sheikh said. “The speakers were all really great and we did a lot of fun activities. I would definitely recommend it to girls that are interested in going into the field of business to become more acquainted with the business world.”
Sheikh plans on attending the event again this year in hopes of learning something new.
“I would definitely go again since they aren’t always the same and have different speakers,” Sheikh said. “The experience is pretty valuable.”
