The Palo Alto High School girls’ basketball team (9-2, 3-0) emerged victorious from its third league game of the season at home against Monta Vista, 68-42.
The Vikings found their scoring touch early and went on a 14-point run while holding the Matadors to only five points, ending the first quarter, 16-5.
Throughout the second quarter, the Viking offense to continue to dominate, getting three pointers from seniors Mariah Philips and Sydney Davis. On the other side of the ball, Paly’s defense stifled the Matadors, allowing them only five more points and giving the Vikings a 26 point lead at half, 36-10.
Scoring at will on the Matador defense and continuing to play lock-down defense, the Vikings stretched their advantage during the third quarter to 52-20.
Monta Vista rallied in the fourth quarter, more than doubling their offensive output on the night with 22 points, but it was not enough to overcome Paly’s strong offensive effort. The Vikings maintained the pressure and scoring 16 points back to ice the game at 68-42.
Palo Alto will take on Wilcox at Wilcox High School on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
