The application deadline for the Palo Alto High School assistant principal position will be extended to give prospective applicants the opportunity to apply, according to a district official.
The deadline has been moved back to May 17 to give prospective applicants a chance to apply for the newly open Gunn High School assistant principal position, according to Scott Bowers, Palo Alto Unified School District’s assistant superintendent of human resources.
With the previous deadline of April 19, Paly’s assistant principal position was the only position available. However, since the previous Gunn assistant principal, Phil Winston, was appointed to be the new Paly principal, there is now an open spot at Gunn as well, according to Bowers.
Currently, the district has received a total of 98 applications for the Paly and Gunn positions, Bowers said. Once the new deadline passes, the newly appointed principals Winston and Katya Villalobos will work with the district to choose the assistant principals, according to Bowers.
“Hiring assistant principals is a collaborative effort between the site and the district,” Bowers said.
The district is searching for an assistant principal who can enhance the administrative team within the school and work well with the staff, students and parents, according to Bowers.
“The district is looking for a candidate with a strong potential for growth,” Bowers said. “We’re looking for folks that see themselves growing in other administrative positions.”
