The Viking boys’ Santa Clara Valley Athletic League Championship-winning streak ended when the varsity swim team placed second behind Monta Vista High School at Gunn High School on Friday.
Paly finished the SCVAL season with 354 points, falling 60 points behind Monta Vista. The loss of the De Anza Division crown in swimming ended their hopes to set a school record for the most number of consecutive league championship wins.
Sophomore team captain Byron Sanborn won the sole individual victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with his CCS-qualifying time of 59.92 seconds. Additionally, Sanborn swam an All-American Consideration time of 1 minute, 55.70 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley, although he finished second.
