Cee-Ning Wong: Continuing with the Not in Our School Week festivities, students wrote chalk messages and made friendship bracelets to celebrate unity.
Osceola Ward: I think the activity turned out great. We were a little worried about people using the chalk in a destructive manner, but we got a lot of positive quotes and hearts and peace signs out there.
Shannon Lee: Students found inspiration from famous figures such as the Beatles and Dr. Seuss while writing out their chalk messages.
Ward: We actually didn’t do friendship bracelets or chalk-writing last year, so I think it’s definitely an innovation towards bringing things back.
Wong: Amid the activities, Late Notice, a student-founded jazz band, performed a medley of songs, including Strodsberg, Crazy Race, Chameleon, Black Nile, and Freedom Jazz Dance.
Elliot Sanborn: I think we were vibing really well. The band was really playing together, listening to each other, and it was really laid back.
Sanborn: We usually play a mixture of jazz and funk, and this was mostly a funk gig, which was pretty fun for us because we got to reach out a little bit and played some more hip hop stuff and it was really fun.
Lee: Look forward to seeing senior Conor Ney’s freestyle rap performance on Thursday at lunch and participate in the other activities: Dissolving Stereotypes and Slam Poetry & Steppers.
Wong: This has been Cee-Ning Wong and Shannon Lee of The Paly Voice, reporting back to you about the Wednesday lunch activities.
