The Paly boys’ soccer team tied Los Altos High School, 1-1, on Thursday, Feb. 11.
Due to the five-day break, the team lacked the presence of many players.
“I think three players were gone, one had mock trial, and I was injured,” said sophomore center back Gerrit van Zyll.
Twenty-five minutes into the first half, Paly forward Zach Hummel made the first goal of the game after a throw-in from team captain midfield Jenner Fox.
In the second half, Paly players lined up to defend a penalty kick from a corner. The ball, successfully blocked, flew out-of-bounds resulting in a throw-in by Los Altos from the opposite corner. Los Altos headed the ball into the goal past sophomore forward Kris Hoglund, substitute for the two absent goalies Scott Alexander and Austin Shiau, after a corner kick in the second half of the game.
“It was both an inspiring and probably the toughest tie or loss of the season,” head coach Donald Briggs said.
