To better integrate clubs into Paly culture, the Associated Student Body has announced plans to implement monthly Club Activity Days, according to ASB Vice President George Brown.
Throughout the school year, club presidents can sign up to host lunchtime activities on the quad, Brown said, adding that activities can be anything from games and competitions to merchandise sales.
“Our hope is that this will broadcast your club and get the word out about what it does,” Brown said. “This is completely optional but we hope that about five clubs will sign up each month.”
Club leaders are enthused about the idea and think the event is a great way to increase awareness about the plethora of on-campus groups.
“It sounds like a good way to get clubs’ names out,” said junior Hannah Mernyk, co-president of YCS-Interact.
Junior Quinn Walker, treasurer of Paly Model United Nations, added, “Clubs are so divided, but we finally get to bring them together. It’s a day besides Club Day when we get to show what we have to offer.”
Some clubs have already begun brainstorming potential activities.
“I think [Paly Model United Nations President] Samara [Trilling] is using this as a leadership opportunity for younger members,” Walker said. “They’ll be coming up with specific ideas.”
Senior Claire Cooper, president of Paly Spirit Club, agreed and said that her club would probably sell spirit shirts.
A few presidents thought that having the event once a month was too much.
“Once every other month would be better,” Mernyk said.
The inaugural Club Activity Day has been set for Friday, Dec. 11. Interested clubs should sign up at the Student Activities Office [SAO] near the library during brunch, lunch, or fourth period.
