Key Club members will collect orders on Oct. 16 to Oct. 18 at the quad for their American Apparel sweatshirt fundraiser for the Kiwanis Foundation for Pediatric Trauma Prevention.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to five local hospitals through the Kiwanis Foundation, to help ensure that children in traumatic accidents can be cared for with the proper resources and tools, according to Key Club president, Erika Ji, a senior.
Last year, Key Club Division 34 South, a group of local key clubs, held a sweatshirt fundraiser, which Paly’s Key Club was inspired to replicate this year. Ji hopes to sell more than 200 sweatshirts in the fundraiser.
“Last year, they [the officers of the division] were ordering purple jackets,” Ji said. “It was really successful. We thought it would be good to do it [hold a sweatshirt fundraiser] at Paly.”
Each sweatshirt bought in the fundraiser will cost $25 – 59 percent of the price of the same sweatshirt at an American Apparel retailer.
The sweatshirts will be available in all colors that American Apparel typically sells except for peppered grey, zinc, slate, and dark ash.
According to Ji, the retailer from which Key Club will purchase the sweatshirts does not stock these colors.
“The retailer we use does not carry those four colors,” Ji said. “They [sweatshirts in those colors] are probably less popular because they’re less colorful.”
According to Ji, checks for sweatshirts should be made out to Weiling Liang with “Key Club Jackets” and the size and color in the memo. Sweatshirts will be available for pickup at the end of October.
