The Paly varsity girls’ softball team beat Los Altos on Wednesday, April 22, winning 2-0.
So far, Paly has maintained a perfect record in league games with 5-0.
Paly maintained an early lead and the game was over quickly, as Los Altos was unable to score in the seventh inning. Junior pitcher Kelly Jenks threw a five hit and thirteen strikeout game, and got into a pitching duel with the Los Altos starting pitcher Ali Goldberg.
“It’s a fast game,” assistant coach Adam Yonkers said. “She [Jenks] was sharp today. It’s a close, defensive game, and we didn’t have many errors. This is a big rivalry in terms of a lead game for us.”
Junior shortstop Lauren Bucolo scored when she singled in senior outfielder Pam Wong in the third inning, and sophomore outfielder Grace Stafford scored the second point when she bunted in sophomore second baseman Gracie Marshall in the fifth inning.
With Paly’s winning streak, the outlook for the rest of the season, as well as CCS eligibility, looks good.
“I think about two-thirds of the season is over, and this bodes well for the rest of the season,” said Yonkers. “We’ve been practicing in the heat, and I think that helped us.”
Paly will play an away game against Santa Clara on April 29, and a home game against Saratoga on May 1.
