Baseball improves to 6-1 in league behind hot bats

With a first-game series win against the Los Altos Eagles (13-7, 4-5), the Palo Alto High School baseball team (13-6, 6-1) looks to close off the series with a sweep, and continue a strong De Anza League run at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Los Altos High School.

With an early league loss to Los Gatos High School (14-5, 7-2), the Vikings are back in contention for another league title after sweeping both Cupertino High School (9-9, 2-8) and Homestead High School (15-6, 6-4).

On Wednesday, the Vikings took the first game of the series against the Eagles, 4-2.

According to senior shortstop Max Jung-Goldberg, the Vikings were strong on the mound.

“Spencer [Rojahn] threw really well yesterday keeping us in the game for five innings,” Jung-Goldberg said. “We got huge hits late in the game from Nathan Willis and Aidan Berger, and then James [Roake] shut the door in his 2 1/3 innings of work.”

Tomorrow, the Vikings will close off the series with an away game.

“To win the series tomorrow we have to take care of the baseball on defense, throw strikes and string good at-bats together with runners in scoring position,” Jung-Goldberg said. “We also have to maintain our quiet confidence and stay in the present moment.”

The ultimate goal for Paly is to game-by-game play solid baseball to continue the “Road to Muni” (San Jose Municipal Stadium) for the Central Coast Section finals.

“Our team goals for the rest of the year is to find a way to compete for seven innings every game,” Jung-Goldberg said. “No matter who we are playing we have to find a way. We want to win league and CCS but that is only in our control of we play together as a team and do the little things right.”

The Vikings will take the field for more DAL play against Milpitas High School (5-13-1, 1-9), at 4 p.m. on April 25 at Paly.
