The Palo Alto Board of Education is looking to comply with Title IX after unanimously approving a new resolution with the Office of Civil Rights, Tuesday night. The general consensus among the school board members was the need to move forward in order to comply with the OCR deadline of March 7. The resolution provides a basis for moving forward with the policy changes suggested by OCR.

“There is no reason to delay approving this resolution,” board member Ken Dauber said.

The initial investigation was launched in 2012 in response to allegations of misconduct regarding failure to comply with Title IX. In addition to forging a new path with OCR, the board also moved to repeal the prior resolution from 2014. Board member, Melissa Baten Caswell, the only member that served on the board at the time, reluctantly agreed to move forward. The resolution was repealed in a vote of 4-1. President Terry Godfrey, was the sole dissenting vote.

“Let’s just do good things for kids and move on from this [OCR resolutions],” Godfrey said.
