In preparation for the autumn Club Day, the Palo Alto High School Associated Student Body will be collecting club applications through Sept. 8, according to Student Activities Director Matthew Hall.

Club applications have not undergone major changes and can be found outside of the Student Activities Office or online.

“Ideally any club that’s chartered by ASB should be an active club that contributes to the campus life,” Hall said.

As one of their first actions of the 2016-17 school year, ASB officers voted to allocate money for a school-sponsored barbecue for the event, according to Hall.

The first Club Day of the school year will be held at lunch on Sept. 19. The day will include a special schedule with an extended lunch for club activities.

In keeping with district policies, the distribution of certain foods has been declined, according to Hall.

“We ask that clubs do not hand out candy because it does not meet the nutritional requirements of the state and the district,” Hall said. “We’re looking into having a band playing so that both quads are active.”

Stressing the importance of chartering active clubs, ASB hopes to improve relations with club leaders, according to Hall.

“We will be coordinating a little bit more with the teacher advisors of the club and asking them for feedback and reporting on the activities,” Hall said.

Hall expects a large turnout from underclassmen and students running clubs.

“I expect what I expect every year: a good showing of all of our clubs,” Hall said.
