Glow for the Philippines fundraiser to take place Tuesday

The Palo Alto Teen Advisory Board is working to assist typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines with the Glow for the Philippines fundraiser Tuesday evening in downtown Palo Alto.

“The Glow for the Philippines fundraiser is a glow stick vigil to honor those who lost their lives to the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan,” said Board co-president Brigid Godfrey, who had the idea for the event.

The event will be especially supporting Palo Alto’s sister city, Palo, in the Philippines, according to Godfrey.

“Palo is a sister city of Palo Alto’s and was actually its first one back in 1963,” Godfrey said. “We are inviting people of all ages and across the city to listen to music and participate in a moment of silence for those who lost their lives.”

There will be tea lights for sale and all proceeds will go to Neighbor’s Abroad, according to Godfrey. Along with Neighbor’s Abroad, One Dollar For Life will also be taking donations.

There will also be live music by Palo Alto High School seniors Remi and Chloe, as well as Remy Felsch, Hannah May Allison, Sweet Imperfections and other local artists, according to the Glow for the Philippines Facebook page.

Godfrey said it’s important for people to be aware of world events and go out and make an impact.

“Teenagers are truly the future,” Godfrey added. “We need to understand what’s happening in the world in order to have a positive influence on it.”

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 150 Hamilton Ave.
