Preview: a look ahead at Spirit Week

As Spirit Week quickly approaches, Palo Alto High School students are frantically trying to collect outfit pieces, get ahead on their homework and otherwise prepare for a week of competitive games stretching among all four grades. Curious about just what Paly’s plans are for Spirit Week 2013? Read on:

Monday (Theme Day): Come out to the football field for an exciting game of musical chairs. Be sure to dress up as your class theme to show off your grade’s spirit. Freshmen are “warning/under construction,” sophomores are “superheroes,” juniors get in touch with their inner hippie with “yellow submarine,” and seniors throw it back to the 90s.

Tuesday (Salad Dressing Day): Freshmen wear work-out clothes, sophomores suit up for their time on the ranch, juniors pull out their grass skirts and leis and seniors get their togas on. Tuesday’s lunchtime rally will be three “Minute to Win It” games, held on the football field.

Wednesday (Colors Day): There will be two rallies Wednesday: a “Carrying Capacity” game at brunch, as well as the relay race at lunch on the football field. Be sure to dress head to toe in your class’s color. Freshmen wear orange, sophomores wear red, juniors wear yellow and seniors come decked out in green.

Thursday (Generations Day): Thursday’s lunchtime rally will feature two games: hula hoop and “Minute to Win It.” Hit up the football field at lunch in your outfit (freshmen-babies, sophomores-teeny boppers, juniors-sophisticates and seniors-senior citizens). To wrap up the day, there will be a second rally with a three-point shooting contest during Advisory in the main gym.

Friday (Green and White Day): To wrap up this year’s Spirit Week, there will be another two rallies on Friday. Head out to the football field during lunch for the tug-o-war contest and teacher dance, and be sure to come back after school for the unveiling of the floats and the spirit dances. To end on a note of unity, all grades will be wearing their finest green and white Paly pride, except for the seniors, who will wear head-to-toe camo.
